Sakya
Thubten Namgal Ling or Sakya Institute was established
in 1980 by His Holiness Sakya Trizin with the sole intention
of imparting further education in Higher Buddhist Philosophy
and Thought. The purpose of this Institute is to train
young monks to develop into the next generation of teachers
and thereby preserve and disseminate the teachings of
Lord Buddha.
Students
of this institute come from different monasteries in
India and neighbouring countries like Nepal, Bhutan
and Tibet. They are selected on the basis of their intelligence,
education background and character. An entrance test
is conducted before their final admission. In the past
twenty years more than 45 students successfully completed
their degrees. Many of these now hold important positions
in different monasteries and institutes. Some of them
teach at Institutes in Nepal, Bhutan and Tibet as well.
